Maui Airport

Guide to Maui Airports: Tips and Information for Your Hawaiian Vacation (updated 2023)

Maui’s primary airport is Kahului Airport (OGG), which serves all commercial airline operations on the island and is the second busiest airport in Hawaii after Honolulu International Airport. While Maui also has two other airports – Kapalua Airport (JHM) and Hana Airport (HNM) – there are no international flights to Maui. Visitors to Maui can explore the nearby town of Kahului and even take a discovery flight to learn how to fly.

Directions to Maui Kahului Airport (OGG)

Here are some general directions to get to Maui’s Kahului Airport:

From Lahaina and West Maui: Take Highway 30 East to Highway 380, and then turn left onto Highway 36. Follow the signs to the airport.

From Kihei and South Maui: Take Piilani Highway North, turn right onto Airport Access Road, and then follow the signs to the airport.

From Upcountry Maui: Take Kula Highway to Haleakala Highway, turn right onto Kekaulike Avenue, and then turn left onto Hana Highway. Follow the signs to the airport.

It’s always a good idea to use a GPS or map app to ensure you’re on the right track. Additionally, give yourself plenty of time to navigate the roads and potential traffic, especially during peak travel seasons.

Parking and Car Rentals at Kahului Airport:

Parking access is easy with Long and short term parking right across from the airport and the Airport Trolley system which takes you directly to the various car rental agencies just outside the airport area and is a fun way to get there.

  • Airport Parking:
    • Short-term parking is free if under 15 minutes. Follow signs for the cell phone/waiting lot for longer periods.
    • Long-term parking is available but can be costly. During peak season, off-site parking may be required, and shuttles may not always be reliable.
  • Car Rentals:
    • After collecting your baggage, head to the train waiting area across the street.
    • Take the train to the last stop, which is the rental car parking facility.
    • National rental car companies have agents in front of you when exiting the train, but arrangements may be needed for other rental car companies. Check with the company for pick-up arrangements.

It is recommended to plan ahead and check for parking and car rental availability during peak travel seasons.

Arriving passengers and Agriculture Declaration Form

When you arrive in Hawaii, you will receive a form to fill out, which is mandatory. One side of the form is for declarations, while the other side is a voluntary questionnaire. Many people are unaware of this and complete both sides of the form.

It is against the law to not complete the Hawaii Agricultural Declaration Form, and flight attendants will collect the forms before landing.
