Visit Hawaii in April, a fantastic time to be here

Visiting Hawaii in April is one of my favorite times to be here with great weather, less crowds and easy access to many attractions, activities and sites without the mass of tourist visiting during the peak seasons.

April is the tail end of the spring break season but with less crowds and good weather, but cooler at nights and some rain showers that are always changing at this time of year unless you typically stay on the dry side of each island.

Reasons to Go to Hawaii in April

Reasons to Go to Hawaii in April

You don’t want to miss these key advantages of visiting Hawaii in April and Spring timeframe.

Warming temperatures – April typically is the last month of winter which typically is cooler and rainy weather. Overall the temperatures are quite pleasant and not excessive compared to summer time temperatures.

Less crowds – April tends to be the shoulder season with more space to hang out at the beach and less lines for popular attractions, places to eat and even pool side chairs. Most of the main tourist sites and attractions are within reach without excessive wait times compared to visiting during peak seasons to the islands.

Better prices and deals – You’ll probably be able to find below season deals on hotels, entertainment and even food specials or happy hour deals in April.

Is Hawaii Nice in April?

Is Hawaii Nice in April?

Following the cooler temperatures of February and March which typically are the coldest months to visit the islands. THings start to warm up again in April with regular highs in the mid to high 70s and night time temperatures averaging in the very low 70s.

Rainy forecast for April

In April, the state receives an average of 108 inches of rain and moreso on the wet and cooler side of each island which is the windward side. You can expect more rainy on the lush east side of each island and the dryer leeward or west and southern parts tend to have less rain and more sunny days.

If you are looking for more sun and fun, then stick to the southern and western parts of each island to get better weather for your entire visit, but of course that’s not guaranteed.

How warm is it in April?

On average, Hawaii temperatures are still in spring weather but are pleasant with higher temperature averages to a high of 77 degrees and the average low of 71 degrees.

It’s easy enough to do most activities outdoors day time into night time and even with the occasional showers that you may come across which is actually pleasant in cooling down temperatures a bit.

For better and warmer weather in Hawaii, I would stick to the western south parts of each island. Think Kihei, Wailea, Ka’anapali in Maui, Waikiki and Honolulu in Oahu, Poipu in Kauai and Kailua Kona area on the Big Island.

Ocean conditions in Spring

Ocean conditions in Spring

Water temperature and conditions in the ocean are fairly consistent and tends to be calmer. You’ll find choppier water and currents typically later in the day to evening and more prevalent in the western and southern sides of each island. If you stick to morning and early afternoon water activities, then you should be fine.

In any case always pay attention to the weather conditions before you spend some time out in the water.

Is the water warm in April?

Water temperatures are comfortable and average around the mid 70s which makes it doable for swimming and other water and recreational activities.

If you are looking for even warmer water temperature then coming later in Summer to September will be perfect when the water tends to be closer to the lower 80s making it perfect for enjoying any water activity.

In any case a wet/dry suit is not essential to swimming or snorkeling in the ocean

April is typically the off season on the islands and the second slowest month for tourism in Hawaii. September is noted as the slowest time of the year to visit the islands. This makes April an excellent time of the year to visit, with lesss crowds and better deals including flights, hotels and even dining/entertainment around the islands..

Is Hawaii Cheaper in April?

Is Hawaii Cheaper in April?

Accommodations represent a large portion of your Hawaiian vacation budget. So, if you’re trying to save money, you’ll want to come to the islands when you can get a good deal.

Even flying if booked in advanced will give you better deals for long distance and even inter-island travel around Hawaii.

Even though April’s rates are slightly above average for Hawaii you’ll find it a bit less if you look to stay in Oahu. But you can also try to find dealsl on the outer islands the Big Island which tends to be cheaper overall.
