Visiting Hawaii in June

Visiting Hawaii in June is one of my favorite times to be here with great weather, less crowds and easy access to many attractions, activities and sites without the mass of tourist visiting during the peak seasons.

June is the start of the summer season in Hawaii, but it still has less crowds than the official start in June. With excellent weather, pleasant nights and some rain showers that are always changing at this time of year unless you typically stay on the dry side of each island.

With fantastic weather and so many options of events and activities happening around the islands, why not consider visiting in June?

Here’s some ideas about events and choosing which island to visit below.

Why visit Hawaii in June

Why visit Hawaii in June

June is a great time to visit Hawaii because it offers a sweet spot between spring and the busier summer months. The weather is reliably warm and sunny, perfect for beach days, hiking, and outdoor exploring. You’ll find fewer crowds than in July and August, which means better availability for accommodations and tours, often at lower prices.

It’s also a time when the islands start buzzing with local festivals and events, giving you a chance to experience Hawaiian culture without the crush of high-season tourism. The ocean is calm, ideal for snorkeling, paddleboarding, and boat tours, and the lush landscapes are still green from spring rains.

Temperatures for visiting Hawaii in June

Temperatures for visiting Hawaii in June

June in Hawaii is the start of summer, and the weather is generally warm and pleasant across the islands. Daytime temperatures typically range from the mid-70s to mid-80s Fahrenheit (about 24–29°C), with evenings cooling down slightly but still comfortable. Humidity is present but not at its peak yet, and the Tradewinds help keep things breezy and more enjoyable.

Ocean conditions in June

Ocean conditions in Hawaii during June are generally calm and favorable, especially on the south-facing shores. This time of year, marks the start of the summer season, which brings gentler swells and clearer waters, making it ideal for swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and other water activities. The water temperature averages around 78°F (25°C), warm and inviting for long sessions in the ocean. While the north shores—known for big winter surf—are much calmer in June, the south shores may see occasional swells, especially on Oʻahu’s Waikīkī or parts of Maui and Kauaʻi, offering small, manageable waves perfect for beginner surfers. Visibility for snorkeling and diving is typically excellent, especially in the mornings before afternoon winds pick up.

What is the tourist and crowds like in June

What is the tourist and crowds like in June

Tourist levels in Hawaii during June are moderate and gradually building as the month goes on. Early June tends to be quieter, with a mix of families starting summer vacations and couples or solo travelers looking to avoid the peak season. As schools let out across the U.S., especially by mid to late June, the number of visitors increases, particularly on more popular islands like Oʻahu and Maui. While it’s not as crowded as July or the winter holidays, you can expect busier beaches, more booked tours, and higher traffic at major attractions toward the end of the month. Planning ahead for accommodations and activities is a good idea, especially if you’re visiting later in June.

Are there better prices and deals for June?

Yes, you can often find better prices and deals for visiting Hawaii in June, especially if you plan ahead and take advantage of available promotions. Travel platforms like Expedia and Travelocity frequently offer bundled vacation packages that combine flights and hotels, sometimes starting from around $834 to $932, allowing for significant savings compared to booking separately. Airfare deals are also available, with round-trip flights to Hawaii starting from as low as $122 on sites like Travelocity, and even lower on platforms like Expedia, where round-trip flights to Hawaii Island can start from $73.

For accommodations, many resorts and hotels offer special promotions during this period. For instance, the Royal Kona Resort has a “Stay Four Longer” deal, offering every fourth night free for stays of four nights or more, valid through December 19, 2025. Similarly, the Royal Hawaiian Resort provides up to 30% off for stays of seven days or more, along with daily breakfast for two. Additionally, for Hawaii residents, there are exclusive Kamaaina rates at resorts like The Westin Hapuna Beach Resort and Mauna Kea Beach Hotel, starting at $349 and $399 respectively, which include perks like complimentary breakfast and no resort fees.

To maximize savings, consider booking midweek flights, as they tend to be cheaper than weekend departures. Utilizing travel apps or services that offer price alerts can also help you snag the best deals as they become available. By combining these strategies, you can enjoy a Hawaiian getaway in June without breaking the bank.
