An update on Hawaii Travel and Covid information
Hawaii travel is still safe and fantastic once you get all the precautions in order with covid information and travel to the islands. If you are traveling to the islands, here’s an update on Hawaii travel information and what you need to know regarding covid procedures now. Until Hawaii has reached 60% of it’s residents vaccinated, then any travelers that have been vaccinated will not be required to do a Pre-Covid testing with a negative result for travel to the island. Once the percentage reaches 70% vaccination, all travel restrictions will be lifted and the safet travels program will end.
As of June 4th, 52 % of Hawaii residents have been fully vaccinated and they are reaching the first vaccination requirement to Pan Pacific travel. Interisland travel now between the islands have no requirements for covid testing and there are no restrictions.
Hawaii travel and Covid information
Hawaii has been opened since October 2020 for all visitors to the islands, but you must take a Pre-Covid test and provide evidence of a negative result. Check out all the necessary requirements below to make this an easy process for you to enjoy your Hawaii vacation now.
On June 15th, 2021, Hawaii residents that have been vaccinated in Hawaii and are returning back to the islands will not require a Covid test or manadatory quarantine period.
What’s acceptable as a Covid testing result
Only approved testing facilities or programs offered through the Hawaii partner Covid testing sites are allowed and evidence of a negative result have to be given prior to 72 hours of a flight entry to any Hawaiian island.
Who can visit Hawaii during the Covid Pandemic
Mainly visitors from the USA mainland, Canada, Japan and now from Korea are allowed to vacation in Hawaii with a negative covid test result. Other visitors from other countries must present a negative covid test or undergo a 10-day mandatory quarantine in their place of stay on the islands.
Visitors must also fill out a Hawaii safe travels form that needs to be completed prior to flying to the islands showing the results of your negative Covid test result and health travel questionnaire.
There are a few airlines including United Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines that have implemented a pre-clearance program that helps show the testing results prior to boarding and to bypass the entry documentation screening process in Hawaii. Check on each airlines pre-clearance program updates for any additional information or change in this process for Hawaii travel.
What are the current travel restrictions to Hawaii?
All visitors to the islands require a 10-day quarantine which can be offset with a negative Covid test result. You must get a testing done with an approved Hawaii testing partner here that uses a Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) and done 72 hours prior to your flight to Hawaii. Once you have received your test results, you can upload it directly to the Hawaii safe travels form that you can complete prior to departure.
Under the Hawaii safe travels initiative, random additional covid testing may occur on entry on each of the islands but testing will be the responsibility of each county paid by the county.
Maui travel information on Covid
As an additional travel requirement to Maui implemented on January 11, all travelers to Maui have to download the Aloha Safe Alert on their cell phone to show proof of a negative Covid result or must go into a 10-day quarantine period. This applies to travel to Maui, Lanai and Molokai. Maui beaches and parks are open with gatherings limited to five people. Masks and social distancing are required at all tourist locations, buildings or attractions. Tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels are allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity.
Kauai travel information on Covid
All visitors already on the island for over three days can fly to the island by either taking a Pre-covid test with a negative result from approved travel partners and filled out the safe travels form prior to visiting. Kauai beaches and parks are open with gatherings limited to just 10 people and 25 in outdoor spaces. Masks and social distancing are required at all tourist locations, buildings or attractions. Big Island information on Covid
All visitors to the island have to take a Pre-Covid test with negative test results posted on the safe travels form prior to visiting. Big Island beaches and parks are open with gatherings limited to just 25 people. Masks and social distancing are required at all tourist locations, buildings or attractions. Tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels are allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity.
** A random secondary testing will be done to 25 percent of visitors to Hawaii island that the county covers in expediting and costs.
Oahu travel information on Covid
All visitors to Oahu island are required to take a Pre-Covid test with negative test results posted on the safe travels form prior to visiting in order to avoid quarantine. Oahu beaches and parks are open with gatherings limited to just 5 people at all places. Masks and social distancing are required at all tourist locations, buildings or attractions. Tourist attractions, restaurants and hotels are allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity with bars slowly allowed to operate at lower capacities.
Hawaii Interisland travel information on Covid
As of June 15th, having reached 55% of islanders having been vaccinated now in Hawaii, there are no pre-covid testing requirements for interisland travel.
If you have to quarantine in any of the islands
You need to adhere to all of the following guidelines
In self-quarantine, you are not allowed to leave your room under any circumstances
You are not allowed to rent a vehicle or stay in a short-term rental
Those on quarantine are restricted from any inter island travel during their quarantine period.
Any travelers who violate these terms are going to be prosecuted and may have a one-year prison term and fined up to $5,000 per person.

Other tips for Hawaii information on Covid
Give yourself plenty of time for check-in and security check points at the airport of departure
Make sure to fill out your safe travels questionnaire 24 hours prior to departure
Incoming visitors will have their temperatures checked, if any have temperatures above 100.4 degrees will require secondary testing on site.
All Covid testing results have to be on hand prior to departure, it will not be accepted during arrival if a test result is not yet cleared and all visitors have to quarantine for 10 days.
In the pipeline – a Vaccine Passport
Vaccine passports are starting to make the news in travel worldwide destinations and Hawaii is also at the forefront of this with state government leading the efforts
Hawaii is starting to develop a vaccine passport for those who have completed their Covid Vaccine process. This passport generates a digital code that will permit visitors and locals to bypass the 10 day quarantine period for interisland and Pan Pacific travel to Hawaii. A goal of ramping up this vaccination verification program is projected around April 1st for launch and for mainland visitors to Hawaii in May timeframe. We have similar travel regulations on this side of the pond with most countries requiring a negative COVID test and/or quantine or both in some cases. Makes travel a bit more of a challenge than it already was. . .
